Booms are the direct connection to the rig and therefore an important component of the windsurf sail. Basically, you can't do much wrong as long as you pay attention to the correct length and the right connection to the front piece, however, there are different types here as well and a qualitative boom can already make a big difference.
Length
All modern booms can be adjusted in length, but only within a certain range. You should make sure that the boom covers all sail sizes you want to use. The length of the boom can be read off the sail ("boom").
The boom length, or the range in which it can be adjusted, is roughly divided into "Wave" for small sails, "Freeride" for medium sails and "Slalom" or "Race" for large sails. However, not all manufacturers use the same designations.
Diameter
Booms come in a standard diameter or a "slim" version. The thin diameter gives you more control and saves power when surfing - but usually these booms are also more expensive, because they are specially reinforced with carbon.
Carbon
Not only masts, but also booms are available as carbon versions, these have a more direct and stable behavior and often a thinner diameter. Like all carbon products, these are more expensive than the classic aluminum version. If you have had a carbon fork tree in hand for the first time, you do not want to use any other. The handling and stiffness are much better than a conventional aluminum fork tree. This is an investment that we think is worth it.
Front piece
Depending on whether you are using an RDM or SDM mast, you need to make sure you have the right front piece on your boom, or alternatively use an adapter.
