Simmer Style
Simmer Style – The story of windsurfing legends
The story of Simmer Style goes back to the early 1980s, when windsurfing was at its peak on Maui. Haiku, a small village on the north coast of Maui, was still an undiscovered gem with perfect conditions for windsurfing. The constant trade winds and powerful waves of Hookipa pushed not only the skills of the surfers, but also the equipment to its limits.
In 1981, the brothers Malte and Klaus Simmer, themselves passionate windsurfers and an integral part of the Hookipa scene, recognized the enormous potential for more powerful and durable windsurfing equipment. Inspired by their big wave experiences, they developed the first prototypes that could withstand the extreme conditions. Their motto was: “If I eat it, I eat it... at least the equipment can handle it!”, a philosophy that still characterizes the brand today.
The rise of a cult brand
What started as a small garage workshop quickly developed into an internationally recognized brand. The Simmer brothers began producing custom windsurf sails for the world's best surfers. Their designs combined durability, performance and innovation – features that set Simmer Style apart from other manufacturers.
In the 1990s, Simmer Style expanded and became a fixture on the international windsurfing circuit. With a focus on durable, high-performance sails optimized for extreme conditions, the brand gained the trust of professional windsurfers and recreational riders alike.
Technological innovations and groundbreaking designs
Simmer Style is known for its continuous innovation and ability to adapt to the changing needs of the windsurfing community. Some of the most notable technical developments include:
- 3D CAD design – early adoption of computer-aided design techniques to optimize sail shapes and materials.
- Tri-Ply construction – one of the first brands to introduce three-layer reinforcements to improve durability.
- X-Ply laminate – A groundbreaking material choice that offers resistance to abrasion and stretching.
These innovations have helped make Simmer Style products a leader in both the world of waveriding and the freeride segment.
Collaborations with professional surfers
Over the years, Simmer Style has worked with some of the world's best windsurfers, including legends such as Kauli Seadi and Boujmaa Guilloul, who have won numerous titles and competitions with Simmer equipment. These partnerships have not only increased the brand's visibility, but have also provided important impetus for the further development of the products.
A legacy of progress
Simmer Style has established itself as a brand that stands for quality, innovation and passion over the decades. From the rough waves of Hookipa to windsurfing spots worldwide, Simmer Style remains synonymous with performance and durability. The values established by the Simmer brothers in the 80s remain the driving force behind the brand – windsurfing equipment that can withstand extreme conditions.
