Neoprene hoods and neoprene caps are mainly in demand in winter and transitional seasons. The neoprene hoods and caps protect both your head, ears and face from wind and cold.
There are two types of surf hoods or surf caps. A hood is used exclusively to protect your head. Everything is covered except the nose, mouth and eyes. Some surf hoods have an additional flap in the neck, which is tucked under the wetsuit. This way, on extremely cold days, little or no water penetrates the wetsuit.
A beanie is a cap made of neoprene. They are perfect for the colder weather conditions. Beanies keep the head warm and are more comfortable compared to neoprene hoods.
The size plays an important role. With a neoprene hood or beanie that is too small, you will get a headache. On the other hand, with a hood or cap that is too big, you will cool down too quickly.
The neoprene hoods are usually between 2 and 5mm thick. The thicker the material, the warmer the hood.
Neoprene caps (beanies) are usually between 2 and 3mm thick. They are also perfect for slightly cooler summer days.
Neoprene hoods and beanies are also popular after or between sessions, as they prevent the wind from chilling you through your wet hair.
In our surf, kite, wing and windsurf store we carry the following neoprene hood brands: FCS, Prolimit, XCEL and Neilpryde.
