The founding of Prolimit
Prolimit was founded in the Netherlands in 1984, with a clear vision: to develop high-quality equipment for water sports enthusiasts that meets the needs of athletes. The founder, Jan de Vries, was a passionate windsurfer himself and saw an opportunity to create innovative solutions in a growing market.
The idea behind Prolimit was to fill a gap. Although many existing products offered basic functionality, there was a lack of high-quality equipment that was specifically designed for the demanding conditions of water sports. Jan de Vries wanted his company to sell more than just products; he wanted to offer real solutions for water sports enthusiasts. The first Prolimit product was a wetsuit that was far superior in terms of insulation and freedom of movement. The success of this suit ensured that Prolimit grew rapidly and earned itself a place among the leading manufacturers of water sports equipment. Jan de Vries was an experienced windsurfer at the time, who not only loved the sport but also understood the technical challenges involved in developing equipment. He not only had a passion for surfing, but also a clear technical background and a keen understanding of the needs of water sports enthusiasts. This helped him to develop products that were functional and comfortable at the same time, without compromise.
Jan de Vries was not only the founder of Prolimit, but also a visionary entrepreneur who significantly influenced the watersports market. With his technical knowledge and passion for the sport, he laid the foundation for the company and its success in the global market. In the 1990s, Prolimit began to conquer the international market, establishing a strong presence in Europe and other parts of the world. Particularly in the field of kitesurfing, Prolimit began to play a leading role in the development of specialized products that met the extreme demands of this sport.
