The Evil Twin is a combination of a twin fin and a trailer that was developed not only for the ‘Evil Twin’ board model, but for all boards that rely on twin fin flare. The outline is an exact replica of our twin fins, which we designed almost 25 years ago for our original RNF. A friend in Florida recently dug up a pair of these hand-made twins from the mid-90s and sent them to me because he thought that these large-area fins were still relevant today. We immediately built a prototype with Futures and were thrilled. An upright fin with a backward-curved tip and a lot of surface area. They provide drive and a precise pivot. We paired them with a smaller Trailer Fin. This helps to draw curves and adds some stability and projection, but retains the free feeling – the twin fin feeling. I recently used a prototype on my step-ups, solid backside, overhead Indo surf where I never thought a twin fin would work so well - so well I even forget I'm using it.
